With a renewed focus on reducing carbon emissions and greenhouse gases to help mitigate some of the damage we are doing to our planet, the Government has committed to a legally binding target of net zero emissions by 2050.

Smaller businesses have a part to play to ensure that emissions – and waste – are kept as low as possible. To this end, HB is working hard with Wenta, one of England’s largest enterprise agencies. They’re an independent, not-for-profit, social enterprise that exists to make it easier and greener to start and run a successful business.
Our silver accreditation
Over the past few years, we’ve worked hard to ‘go green’, however, there is always more to do. This is why we signed up for Wenta Action Zero support which helps SMEs towards net zero. Through this, we not only learn more about the published views about climate change, we identify the business risk and opportunities that this offers to business. Through this work, we have earned our silver award.
The next part of our accreditation journey is to measure our carbon footprint. This will show us opportunities where our business could reduce emissions, in Wenta’s words, how we could “calculate the business and climate benefits of Net Zero and understand what becoming “Net Zero” can mean for the future of your business”.
Does your accountant care about sustainability?
We care about sustainability. It will be a fascinating exercise learning what we are already doing well – such as driving electric company cars, 100% green hosted website and all our efforts to reduce waste in the office – and what we can do better. All this forms part of our gold award, along with creating an action plan that sets out what actions we will take now and in the future. Wenta will offer tailored 1:1 advice throughout this work.
Our silver accreditation shows that we are on our journey and we are working towards Gold Badge accreditation which will formally validate our Net Zero progress. We’ll update you about our progress in blogs later this year.
How can we help?
The HB team is always available to support your accountancy needs and discuss ways to boost your productivity – including ways for your business to become more sustainable. Sustainability is the right thing to do but it also delivers tangible benefits for your business. Some companies demand that their suppliers prove their green credentials so this work enables you to expand your potential client base and of course, reducing waste often leads to reduced costs for your business. It’s a win/win/win!
