HMRC has published the latest Advisory Fuel Rates (AFRs) which apply from 1 June 2025. AFRs are the official rates used when reimbursing employees for business mileage in company cars. They’re reviewed every quarter (February, May, August and November) and adjusted in line with fuel prices.
Why This Matters:
For employers – Keeping up to date with AFRs helps you stay compliant with HMRC rules and makes sure you reimburse business travel fairly – without paying too much or too little.
For employees – Knowing the current AFRs means you can confidently claim the right amount for business mileage and avoid being out of pocket. It also clarifies what needs to be repaid for private travel.
What to do next
Review your policies: Update any internal expense and reimbursement policies to reflect the new rates.
Communicate with your team: Make sure everyone knows the new rates and how to submit claims correctly.
Keep an eye on changes: AFRs are reviewed quarterly, so watch for the next update.
