We’ve got an exciting opportunity brewing in our Hertfordshire community, and we want you and your business to be a part of it. As part of our ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) commitment, HB Accountants offer work experience placements throughout the year. We are eager to do even more for our local students. We want to implement a program where students can rotate through five different businesses in a single week AND develop their understanding of the amazing employers and career opportunities available in Hoddesdon

We prioritise supporting the development of our future workforce and recognise the importance of students gaining real-life workplace exposure. We enthusiastically engage in Careers Fairs at local schools in Hertfordshire and regularly take part in the annual Generation Broxbourne Careers Fair, a collaboration between The Hertfordshire Career Hub and Broxbourne Borough Council. Our aim is to offer insightful advice to students exploring a career in accountancy.
Work Experience Placements – Does your business offer them?
We hear lots of reasons why businesses do NOT offer work experience placements – the top three reasons are
- Limited Resources: Businesses may not have enough time or staff to properly support and train work experience placements for 5 full days.
- Worries about Efficiency: Some businesses fear that having inexperienced individuals could slow down their work or cause disruptions especially over 5 full days.
- Legal Concerns: There are rules and regulations businesses need to follow when taking on work experience placements, which can be complicated and time-consuming to manage.
To date in 2024 we have already invited 4 x Year 12 students from local schools and colleges, to experience our workplace for 5 full days each. Expanding our placements, however, would be a lot easier, if we could offer one-day opportunities instead of the full five days. This program would really hit those first two “reasons” above hard! That’s where you come in! We need numbers to make this happen!!
SME Cohort – 1 Day Work Experience for Students across different 5 SMEs Program – Pilot
We want to implement a program where students can rotate through five different businesses in a single week (or over the course of 5 weeks 1 day per week at each business) if the school/college would be willing.
Together with the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership and Love Hoddesdon BID we are exploring a fantastic initiative for Hoddesdon businesses. Picture this: students rotating through five different businesses in a single week, gaining valuable insights and experiences along the way. It’s a concept that’s worked wonders in Norfolk, and we’re confident it can do the same here.
The best part? We’re keeping things flexible. You get to decide how many students you can host each day and when you’re available. Plus, you’ll have the chance to set unique tasks or challenges for the students, ensuring they get a diverse experience throughout the week.
Our goal is to make this program as accommodating as possible for both schools and businesses alike. We’re all about fostering a supportive community that benefits everyone involved.
So, what do you say? Are you ready to join forces and make a real difference in the lives of our local students? Let’s team up and see what amazing opportunities we can create together in the months to come.
