T Levels are a 2-year, national qualification for 16-19 year olds and are an alternative option to A Levels and apprenticeships. Students choose to study T Levels as they offer hands-on training alongside traditional academic study as 80% of the time is in the classroom with 20% on a minimum 45 day placement with an employer.
We have recently hosted Freddie, a local T Level student. Whilst with us, Freddie learnt about the office environment, how to communicate professionally, and gained some very valuable administration skills. He will take this knowledge forward with him as he completes the T Levels and looks to start his working life. Freddie is the second T Level student who we have hosted and we are pleased that we have formalised an arrangement with Broxbourne School and will be taking on our third T Level student from January 2025.
Would you host a T Level student?
A number of local schools and colleges offer a variety of T Levels across a vast array of subjects. A T Level qualification at grade Distinction* is equivalent to three A Levels at A* and the majority of tertiary providers now consider T Levels for those wanting to go on to university. It’s an exciting time for teenagers as the number and type of learning opportunities is expanding.
HB is super supportive of the new T Level qualifications. Great accountants need a good grasp of facts, figures and processes but they also need plenty of softer people skills such as great communication, organisation and time management skills. If we can give our young people a taste of this before they embark on the more rigorous accountancy training, then we think they are better prepared for their future career. The same may be true in your industry.
Join the T Level Ambassador Network
The T Level Ambassador Network helps promote T Levels across the business community. Currently, there are over 600 members who are advocates for technical education and have a key role in bringing industry and education together. HB Accountants are members and we are using our influence and personal connection to encourage employers and young people to take advantage of the opportunities T Levels, and more broadly technical education, can offer. Hence this blog and our support of local schools offering these qualifications.
