At HB Accountants, we’re not just about numbers; we’re about nurturing talent and fostering a culture of support and growth. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce our latest work experience placements, as they embark on a journey of learning and discovery with us.
HB Accountants – welcoming our work experience students
As a firm dedicated to excellence and community, we believe in investing in the next generation of professionals. Welcoming Eleanor and Callum into our team isn’t just about providing them with practical experience; it’s about showing them the kind, caring people who lie at the heart of HB Accountants.
HB Accountants – training and development
Throughout their time with us, Callum and Eleanor will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of accountancy. From understanding the importance of Anti Money Laundering (AML) procedures to mastering digital and physical file maintenance, they’ll gain practical insights into the intricacies of our profession. Additionally, they’ll receive hands-on training in spreadsheet management using Microsoft Excel, learning essential skills such as cross-checking data and organising information efficiently. With access to tools like Wolters Kluwers’ CCH and HMRC‘s Agent Government Gateway, they’ll experience the real-world applications of industry-standard software, preparing them for success in their future careers.
HB Accountants investing in people
Our team is here to guide and mentor Eleanor and Callum every step of the way, ensuring they feel empowered and inspired to pursue their ambitions.
Q&A with Callum and Eleanor
Eleanor: Were you nervous coming into a business environment?
On the first day I was slightly nervous and didn’t fully know what to expect as I hadn’t been in a proper working environment before. However, everyone on the team was so friendly and welcoming that my nerves quickly melted away as I was introduced into the world of accountancy!
Eleanor: What new skills have you gained?
I believe that I have gained many skills that will be useful to me in my future working life. For example, how to organise client files in the most efficient and cost-effective way, and how the archiving and recoding processes work. I also learnt how to use CCH, which acts as central database for the company. Accounts are produced and filed from within it, as well as Tax Returns.
Eleanor: Have you found work experience valuable?
Extremely valuable, I knew I wanted to go into accountancy, and so this experience has acted as an introduction to the field for me. It’s provided me with knowledge that I wouldn’t be able to gain at school, as none of my A-level subjects cover accountancy, or the processes I have been introduced to whilst at HB. Its also made me certain that this field is a good suit for my skills and interests.
Callum: Do you feel you have grown or developed professionally during your time at HB Accountants?
Before my placement I have had very minimal experience working. Now I know what the average day is like, not just for accountancy but for general office work, and has made me more confident whenever having to work again
Callum: How important do you think mentorship is for individuals in the early stages of their career?
To cement our commitment to future generations, we are proud members of the Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (AAN). This is a group of employers and apprentices who volunteer their time to encourage more employers to offer apprenticeships; whilst inspiring more young people to pursue high-quality apprenticeships.
Mentorship is crucial to people beginning their career as they can very easily get lost in the process. Post 16 is a huge change from secondary school to whatever you go on to do next and can be a very big struggle for people who aren’t as prepared. Therefore, mentorship can be used to advise these people and support them to improve their situation.
At HB Accountants, we understand that the future belongs to our younger generations. By opening our doors to young talent and embracing the spirit of collaboration and mentorship, we’re not just shaping careers; we’re building a brighter tomorrow for all.
Join us in welcoming Eleanor and Callum to the HB Accountants family, and let’s celebrate development. Together, we’ll continue to inspire, empower, and make a difference in the lives of others.
